What to do if your Cat has a sensitive stomach

How to help cats with sensitive stomachs

Nobody enjoys seeing their beloved pet in a state of discomfort. If you’ve noticed your cat seems to be having digestive difficulties, such as (brace yourself): fur balls, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea, or excessive flatulence, it might be time to look into the possibility of sensitivities.

First and foremost, consult your vet to rule out any potential underlying health conditions that might need attention. The symptoms of a delicate digestive system can be similar to those of more serious concerns. Digestive upset can be caused by: stress, parasites, ulcers, foreign bodies trapped in the intestines (such as a swallowed string), among many other maladies. Whether your cat is sensitive or has another health problem, your veterinarian will be your best guide to bringing your friend to a state of better health, happiness, and comfort.

If, – after consulting with your veterinarian – it is revealed that your kitty has a sensitive stomach due to food sensitivities, age, or any other prerequisite, you will want to carefully consider the diet you are feeding them. The foods you feed them are going to have an enormous impact on their general health and wellbeing, and a suitable diet will keep them happy and comfortable.

Keeping your cat hydrated is always a concern, and this is especially true if your cat is prone to vomiting or diarrhea. Wet cat food helps to maintain healthy levels of hydration, and its moisture content makes for easier and more gentle digestion. While dry food is generally fine (as long as it is high quality and nutritionally balanced), it can be too harsh for those with delicate digestive systems and make getting enough fluids into your kitty more challenging.

Unless directed by a vet, any major diet changes ought to happen slowly, so you can monitor for specific food sensitivities and avoid shocking your cat’s system. Their regular diet needs to consist of high-quality, whole foods that are appropriate for a feline diet. This should include plenty of protein and balanced nutrients while being free of harmful junk.

At the Cool Cat Club, we make sure all our food is grain-free with high meat content. We add chicory to encourage healthy gut flora, yucca to help with smelly stools, and cook by gently steaming to maintain a high nutritional value. When browsing our wet foods, you have a choice between succulent chicken, delectable tuna, or tasty ocean fish. What’s more, our Super Premium trays are of a finer consistency, and would be the most gentle on your kitty’s sensitive digestive system.

Whenever you have a concern about your cat’s health, it is always important to consult with your veterinarian before you do anything else. It can be heartbreaking to see them poorly, but they need you to take the proper steps to care for them and shower them in love! With a diet that is right for your own cat’s needs, you’ll have a happy, healthy feline ready for whatever life has to bring!
